Clean Your Closet!! Throw that Old Crap Away!!

Why is it that we hold on to old stuff that we don’t need? If you go to your closet, you’ll find stuff that you should have thrown away years ago!! But why do you keep them? Maybe you think that style is going to come back, or you’ll fit into them again, or they cost too much. Well, I’ve learned that holding on to old stuff is holding on to old baggage!! Let that old stuff go!! As Bigma used to say, “leave the dead, dead!” So let me translate…
When it’s over, it’s over!! Move on!! You can never find something new when you got a closet full of old stuff!! That old stuff that you’re waiting to fit..may never fit again! Is it coming back to life? Hope not!! Because if it does, how long will it last?

Normally at the year’s end, I clean my closet! Which actually means “my life”! Delete those numbers you didn’t call in a year or didn’t call you. There taking up your memory space!! Delete the numbers that called with only drama!! They take up mental space!! If it’s over, stop trying to wish it back!! Ex’s are that for a reason! Double back and get double hurt is normally how it works. But like I said, if you stay in that same old closet, you wear the same old clothes!! So clean out that closet and get you a new wardrobe!!!

Now let me start my Day 2 vacation!!

Hugs n Kisses,

From Mountains to Spinach Chips. My Day..

20131216-182121.jpg

So the morning began with a great breakfast at waffle house. Had grilled chicken, grits, eggs, and hash-browns. After that fulfilling breakfast, I decided to travel north of Atlanta toward the North GA mountains. Figured it would be a great place to take a nice mountain photo and a stress free day.
Well the weakness set in as I passed the Georgia premium outlet mall!! How can I pass a premium outlet mall and not go shopping? Well my first stop was the Bose store! My favorite since I love music so much. Next stop White House black-market outlet. So I find so many outfits that I have to try on!! I’m like a kid in a candy store…. just excited to be in my favorite store getting my shop on. Then tragedy happens!!!

I all of a sudden look at my phone and I see 10 withdrawals from my checking account!! All of them were for $68.55!!! WTH!! So I immediately call my bank, how about someone is in France at a cigar shop using my account!!! They transfer me the Fraud department and they shut off my card! Only me!! Lol!! So I’m in the middle of trying on ALL these daggone clothes!! I told the lady on the phone…hold on honey, I need some money!!! So my bank rep stayed on the phone with me until I went to the ATM and took out some cash!! Thank you USAA!! Now that’s a mess!! Sooo I just bought only half the clothes and headed back to Atlanta. No need going to the mountains with no access to my cash!!!

So back to Atlanta I go. Enroute I talk to my Baby Boy who was downtown. So we met at one if my favorite places and had Spinach Chips and conversation!! Which was better than ANY mountains I could have seen!! So just know that God’s plan is always different than our plans. So His plan was for me to have an amazing conversation with His new born again son!!! What a great day!! Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!! And the Spinach Chips look like a mountain!! Ain’t that amazing!! Lol.

Life in a Vase~ A Nelson Mandela Conversation

I had the pleasure to meet Christopher Gardner, who you may know as the man who Will Smith played in the movie Pursuit of Happyness.  I had about 2 hours of, one on one time to spend with Chris in Charlotte.  It was the best 2 hours I could have spent with anyone! Chris knew Nelson Mandela personally, and he was a topic of our conversation.  This is what we talked about:

Chris said that if his house ever caught on fire, there was only one thing that he wanted to be saved.  I tried to guess what, but I was nowhere near a correct guess.  Chris said the only thing he valued was a glass vase with dirt in it?  So y’all know I’m looking at him like, dirt Chris?  He said, not just dirt, dirt from the back yard of Nelson Mandela’s house.  So I’m still wondering why dirt from Mandela’s house would be important.  And Chris is a real funny and very intelligent man.  So he asked,  you’re curious right?  And I was!

Chris said, when the Mandela’s were fighting apartheid, people were constantly watching them. They had their house bugged, and people were constantly trying to hear what was going on inside the house.  Winnie had to be strong, be careful what she said, and who she talked to.  She couldn’t really talk about anything in the house for fear of being recorded.  They had to be strong in the house and be brave.  But when they went in the back yard, that is where they cried, that’s where they shared their secrets with each other. That is where they prayed and talk to the most honorable on high. That is where they were FREE!

So in that container, what looks like dirt, is life!  The life of the Mandelas; The tears they cried for apartheid and freedom and for all the people of Africa. The tears Winnie cried when Mandela was incarcerated, and the blood she shed in her life.  The screams of being alone, but still remain strong for her country and her husband when he had a life sentence in prison.  The tears she cried to God, begging for strength to survive.  A vase that contained history and life is what he had.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Nelson Mandela, but I felt closer to him by meeting Chris Gardner.  And I now understand why he said, if his house burned down, that’s the only thing he would want to save.  Life in a vase!

“People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.” “People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.” Quoted by Nelson Mandela

R.I.P. Nelson Mandela, and thank you for freedom of speech, your strength to fight, and your loyalty to the world!

Sometime You Have to Lose Yourself, to Find Yourself…

So anyone who really knows me, knows this is me.. I was always “The life of the Party”!  I was the one who threw big parties, with lots of good food, good drinks and outstanding hosting!  I always made sure everybody was happy, full, and entertained.  Even made sure people had lunch for the next day!  And that made me happy.  Making other people happy, made me happy.  I guess I am just a born nurturer.  If someone was sick, I was there, and if any of my friends needed me, I was right there.. All the time!

But then I guess God had a plan for me.. “I’m going to take you away from everyone and everything!”  So there was my move to Charlotte NC. I didn’t know anyone here at all.  It didn’t take me long to make lots of friends, but I kinda held back a little from creating ATL all over again.  I was close to it though!! I finally realized that I am a person who has neglected “me” for years!  I didn’t know how much I could enjoy myself without being the fulfillment to everyone else’s life.  I had moments when I was lonely, but reading and music have always been my favorite things.  Then you wonder, what happened to all the “friends” I entertained? Wow!

So I challenge everyone who tries to make everyone else happy and have been neglecting yourself, to “lose yourself”! Cut out the entertaining and the taking care of everyone except you! Then see who you find! You may really like that person that you never even knew!

Love and Hugs!

Thanks for”giving” us Thanksgiving

28 Thursday Nov 2013

First of all Happy Thanksgiving! Today is a day we think of eating the best food ever, and everyone has a chance to show their cooking skills! But I look at it as a time of family gathering and reflection. This is the one time of year we can come together and just be thankful to have each other. Every year at someone’s house, a person is missing. The memories of that person should forever live in your hearts. God placed us all in the hands of someone else temporarily. And when He calls that person back home, all we can do is “Thank Him” for the time He let us borrow them.

Take this day and cherish every person in your family. Accept them for who they are, because God has a plan for them and for you. Thank God for giving them to you. We never know who’s not going to be at the dinner table next year. So enjoy this day, cherish every moment, and eat as much as you want!!

Take the day to laugh, reflect on the memories of family, enjoy the family, and just celebrate the season of life. Remember, today is the present, it’s the gift if life today. Tomorrow may never come!!! Be thankful for the life you live!!

Have a very Thankful Thanksgiving!

Facebook has a face..

21 Thursday Nov 2013

So it’s amazing how we utilize Facebook for our lives. It can be a powerful tool, but it can also be a harmful weapon! Why would anyone want to air their dirty laundry to the world? It’s encouraging to see people doing positive things with positive results. And it’s actually sad to see the disrespect and bullying that it brings. You know, a computer can turn you into Superman or Superwoman. So many people can hide behind a screen.

I remember a person put in an application for a job. I pulled up his Facebook page, and his profile picture was him aiming a gun at the camera with a swastika behind him. Did he get called in for an interview? Absolutely not!! Did he need a job? I’m sure he did. That means young people, when you post some of the things you do that expose your lifestyle, people are NOT going to hire you. When you see weed, nudity, negativity, drama, that will keep you from getting a job. Don’t think for a moment anyone won’t check. They do!

Keep it positive, keep it inspirational and use it for growth. If you have nothing else to do but put all your business our there that should be confidential, then you get out of society what you put into it. And just because you have a job, don’t ever think your employers aren’t watching. They aren’t your friends? Well someone there is, and don’t think for a minute they won’t snitch you out!!! It happens everyday.

I know a lot of people could care less about what they put in FB. But just remember, Facebook has a face, and it’s yours!!

Tomorrow

I was reading my own blogs and decided to repost this one, because at the year end, it seems we lose so many people in our lives.  So Happy reading!

As I was cooking breakfast and having coffee this morning, I was listening to Lyfe Jennings song, “If Tomorrow Never Comes”. These are the lyrics that caught my attention:

“If I could write the words I say, tell you I love you every single day.  If I could somehow turn back the hands of time, I wouldn’t waste a moment arguing, and I’d never put you through that again.”

“Cause if tomorrow never comes, and you never see me again, I don’t want your last memories of me, to be filled with negativity. If tomorrow never comes, all that fussing and fighting won’t mean nothing when it’s said and done, if tomorrow never comes.”

“And tell my kids, they will be especially missed, and if there’s anything they should learn from this, is life is a gift, tomorrow’s never promised.  If I could rewrite one sentence of my life, I would write the words I never say, tell you I love you every single day. See if I could turn back the hands of time, I would say what’s on my mind, and tell you thank you for being in my life.”

“I take it back, I take back every mean word that I ever said out of anger. And every time I ever hurt you. I take it back. I take back all the disagreements and hurt feelings, not believing in you. Tell me what can I do, but apologize to you, if tomorrow never comes.  My apologies, for if tomorrow never comes, I’ll make sure that I’m the one who says how much I wish I was there.”

Whew!  Now this song really makes you think?  What if tomorrow never comes? What if you go to sleep tonight and this is it? What if this is the last day of your life? And really, it could be. We don’t know. What will people think of you tomorrow?  What will their last memory be?  Will it be that you cursed someone out, and make them feel less than a human?  Will it be that you had an argument, and walked away and no one apologized?  Did you tell your family and your children you love them? Did you help a stranger who will never forget you? Did you speak positive or negative into the world? Did you thank God for the last day, and for all your blessings?

To my children: If tomorrow never comes, and you never see me again, you know I love you all more than life! Thank you God for lending me these 3 Angels.  We’ve had a whirlwind of life!! We live, we love, and we have always laughed.. thru good and bad! If tomorrow never comes, I’ll never regret anything, because you all make life easy!

Well if tomorrow never comes.. you can’t take anything back, and you can’t do it over..  did you do all you could today?  (Food for thought)

Have a Wonderful Wednesday?

And We Went To Church As Kids Because?…A look back at those days..

17 Sunday Nov 2013

church, Deacon, Holy Spirit, Prayer, Religion and Spirituality, Sermon, Sunday, Sunday school

Since today is Sunday, I’m going to take everyone on a journey of when we were kids, and what Sunday worship was to us.  I hope you aren’t in church reading this.. don’t want you to be laughing to loudly! So y’all see where this is going right?

When we were kids, we went to a baptist church considered in the “country” part of my hometown.  Well our Pastor had several different churches, and our church had church only on the 2nd Sunday. As kids, we knew that the 2nd Sunday was an all day affair. As a matter of fact, we saved our money until the 2nd Sunday. I’ll explain why in a few.  Once we got up and got to church, it was Sunday school, then devotion (now known as worship without all the good singing), then collection, then prayer, then preaching, then collection.  And that was only the 1st sermon!  There was about an hour break, then came session 2 starting all over again! Now as I’m grown and I’ve discovered God, and all his glories, I wondered what were we doing back in the day?!  Well here’s what we were doing…

There were four of us. Me, my sister Nita, and my 2 brothers, Jr. and Rodney.  There was my Mom who took us to church, but Daddy was working or home. So Mom had the tedious task of getting us dressed, fed, and out. Then we took that long (back then) haul to the church.  We were happy to get there, cause we got a chance to see all the “church kids” that we hadn’t seen in a month!  So we all sat together in the back of the church.  Now Sunday school, we participated, but after that.. it was “show time”! Now don’t think I’m crazy, cause I know some of y’all remember these times too!  Well during devotion, the Deacons would go to the front of the church and bring a chair out with them, kneel and pray. And when I say pray…they prayed!! They prayed a long time!! They prayed so long, the would get up sweating!! So we were in the back of the church almost asleep from our head bowed, and eyes closed so long! But during prayer, we would always get caught looking at each other to make sure eyes were closed. If they weren’t, that was a little laugh, and “close your eyes!”  Well then after that Deacon finished, another Deacon did the same thing.  So after about an hour, it was choir time.  There were ups and downs with the country church choir.  When they had a piano player, it was good. Without the piano player.. well.. I’ll just not comment on that!  But then came the Pastor! Now when I say, we had the best preacher in town!!! Man, he could preach!  He knew that bible, and he preached from it. He would jump on top of the pews, jump on top of the Communion table, and wherever he could get on top of!  Now what he was talking about.. we don’t know. We really didn’t pay much attention until he finally got to his “boiling point”, as we called it. That was the time, action was about to begin! (Now this is why we liked church, and the moment we waited for) So we were on look out at the ladies of the church, trying to see who was about to “blow”!  We’d see the knees trembling, the hands in the air, the yes-yes-yes, and then…. there it came!! THE SHOUTING!! (as we called it) The ladies would jump up outta their seat, and just fall back down! They were screaming, and jumping like nothing we ever saw, except at church! The Ushers all ran over with their fans, and tried to control them. But then,  the wigs flew off! Now that was our time!  All us church kids were in the back of the church rolling all over the pews laughing uncontrollably! The dresses would come up and we’d see those stocking rolled up above the knee with a knot in them, and that was even funny! Sometimes, the women would just faint! But there was always an Usher with that little bottle of green stuff to put under thier nose to bring them back! Now I know y’all remember this!  (I’m laughing thinking about us back then) But as soon as one lady would calm down, another one started! So that happened every time we went to church!

Now after the 1st sermon, it was our time! The moment we saved our money to go across the street to the house that sold candy to the kids, and was also a bootleg house! Yes, candy and liquor. So during the “intermission” all the kids, and the Deacons were at the Bootleg Candy house.  We’d see the Deacons take a big gulp outta the plastic cups, and make that frown..(“y’all know that frown right..lol) So after we all had our fix.. we would all go back to the church for the 2nd sermon. (And I wondered why those Deacons were sweating so bad) And it started all over again, round 2!

Ok, so I hope you got some humor from that, but now I’m looking back and realizing what was really happening. That preacher knew his words, and the Holy Spirit was all over that church. The things those women endured in thier lives, that was their outlet.
That was the time for their spirit to be cleansed, and for the Holy Spirit to get in them, and let out their frustrations. We had no idea! As kids, we went to church because “that was what you were supposed to do.”  We didn’t know the bible, we didn’t understand the real meaning of God.  We did all the church stuff, but we didn’t “learn”.  As an adult when I got to my own worship point in life, I realized there was so much I didn’t know.  I was never really taught the bible, and what it meant. So once I discovered that, it opened my eyes to a whole new life! I had so much to learn.  And it wasn’t only me, it was all of us. Maybe some of you who are reading this too!  I remember me and Jr were at a funeral, and the preacher said, “open your bible to the book of Job (pronounced Jobe),and I did. Jr looked and me and said, “that’s job, he said Jobe”! lol.. So I gave him that “boy you don’t know nothing about the bible look!’ But that let me know, that he was just like I had been. All that time in the church, but didn’t know a thing.

Well this story could go on, and on, but I just wanted to share that in life, you learn and you grow.  I’m so glad I went through what I went through as a child, to realize what God was doing back in the day. Also to appreciate his Glory more today. Once I discovered HIM and realized how HE died to save our souls from the sins we committed, I had every reason in the world to worship HIM and to praise HIM. Church has gotten so much better about teaching our children now, so they won’t be adults discovering who God is.

I thank God for you all that share my blog, and I pray for all of you each and every day. I pray blessing and prosperity over your life and the life of anyone in your paths. Thank you for being a part of my life, and I promise to always be uplifting, positive, and keep a smile on your face somewhere!

Love and Hugs..
