“I Can’t Breathe”

accidents, black lives matter, cancer, death, I can't breath, Love, peace, police, racism, riots

As I sat on the couch and watched my Dad in the hospital, with the oxygen in his nose, he would take these deep breaths, then he would pause before he would breath again. I would sit there and watch him, just to make sure he could breath. As I watched him, and I watched tv with all the protests in Charlotte, all I could think about was the phrase, “I can’t breath”. When it weights this heavy on my mind, I have to write.

“I can’t breathe”.. The 1st time was when my Dad told me my Mom died. I remember taking that deep breath in, and not letting one out…

“I can’t breath”… When I saw my Mom in the coffin and the glass covering her whole body..

“I can’t breathe”… When my Grandmother was dying with cancer and on her way to the hospital she said, this was going to be her last trip to the hospital because she knew she’d never come home again.

“I can’t breathe”.. When I found out RC had died in surgery from a car accident and my 1st born child would never get to see his father.

“I can’t breathe”.. When Jr. didn’t wake up and Nita told me to get home as soon as I can because my Brother had died.

You get my point? I can breathe never ends up with something good. Then I think about when a parent has to see their child gunned down in the streets. Not by a police, but by ANYONE!! I think about the wives who witness the murder of their husbands, I think about the men who are only trying to protect their families, or the women who are trying to protect their families. When you can’t breath, your chest hurts, your eyes fill with water, and you don’t know whether to run or be still, but it all hurts!

I can’t breath when I think about the injustice of society. I can’t breath when I think about how we’ve worked so hard to get to where we can all get along and “society” can rip us apart like paper. I can’t breath when we as MOMS have to bury our children too soon for nothing. I can’t breathe when I see racist hate because of the color of someone’s skin!  Not breathing hurts.!! The only cure for not breathing, is breathing! I pray for everyone to be able to breathe. Not breathing is a natural part of life that was made to take your breath away and it already hurts, but the unnecessary “I can’t breathe” has to stop. And once I finished writing this blog, my updated iWatch said “BREATHE’! So it’s also taking 1 minute for you to just take time from you day to breathe. How ironic. Look at your life, look at the people in your life. Look at who’s worth your breath, and those are the people that you fight for! Don’t settle for the injustice.  We’ve come to far to turn back now.  Breathe!

As Parents, “Did We Forget Our Dream?”

IMG_5936I went to a Daymond John Seminar last week and learned a lot. I purchased Daymond’s book, “The Power of Broke” and also learned a lot more. I’m not going into the methods of entrepreneurship in this blog because I want you all to know where this seminar took me after 52 years of living. I’ve lived and amazing life. I’ve had lots of highs, and I’ve had lots of lows. They have all taught me valuable lessons of life. But this one lesson I’d like to share with the younger generation that I just didn’t get. I want you all to get it before you all get my age and look back and say.. dang… I didn’t even get it. So here it is.. And it’s free!!

When my Mom died, I was immediately responsible for our house. I was cooking, helping Daddy, and taking on the cooking duties and all those “missing Mommie” duties. After school, Military, then kids. So there was no time for me to live out any dreams of mine. Really I didn’t have any dreams because they all died with my Mom. I didn’t know anyone who lived a great life or anyone that was a Mentor who I could mimic and grow to be like in a small town. I didn’t know “rich” people. My Uncle in Jersey was “rich” to me. He was the one who showed me a different way of life. I then had “dreams” for “my children”. Hear what I say.. “my children”, not me. I made sure I took them to the million dollar neighborhoods to show them where they could live. Made sure they knew about all the luxury cars “they” could have, and the lifestyle “they” could live. I took them on shopping sprees and vacations to show them how “they” could live. I went to college so “they” could go.

Do y’all see where I’m going with this? I lived my life so “they” could live “their” dreams. I didn’t have dreams. My dreams died when my Mom died. I didn’t have any dreams. I never saw myself living “that” life because I was too busy trying to build it for my children. I was too busy working my ass off to enjoy my life, but I made sure “they” would enjoy theirs.

This is what “we” aren’t taught in the rural communities. We aren’t taught wealth. We aren’t taught credit. We weren’t taught investing. We were taught to work, and to take care of everyone else. Then we get 52 and realize. OH YEAH. now I got it. But the good thing about it, I did make sure my children have it. Now it’s time for me to create a dream and try to live it. It’s never too late to live a dream. So if you don’t have one, if you don’t have a goal, get at least one. Aim for that one, and once you reach it, create another one and keep going!

As Always…I’m Back!

Last night Christina called me and said, “Mom, thanks for raising me not to be a snobbish, uppity, self-centered, woman!  I love you for raising me like you did!”  So I asked her, where was she and what crazy women did she see?  She said she went to a networking event in NY hosted by Hillary Clinton, and the older African American women who she used to think were amazing and looked up to, were  snobs!! She was really disappointed at their attitudes and personalities!  Which brought me here.

Parents, our kids look up to us. They watch everything we do. They look at how we talk to people, how we treat people, what we say to people, what we do for people, and they mimic our actions. If we are snobs, guess  what we are raising? Right…little snobs!  When you find young women who want to look up to you, and they realize you are only a fake, can you imagine how that makes them feel?  Our young generation needs strong mentors to look up to. They need someone to help them achieve a level higher than us.  We HAVE to be humble and realize we have eyes watching our every move. When you are all of sudden, too good to give back, then you are useless and the talents that God gave you, He will take them back because you aren’t using them for the good of Him. When you are snapping and acting a fool, going off on people, being too good for everything, complaining about everything and everybody, mad for no reason…remember, the kids are watching and they mimic your actions. So today, look at how you act and think…would want your child acting like you. If the answer is no, it’s not too late to change!!!

Santa WalletWell it’s that time of year again.  Time for the parents to go broke to get the kids all these toys that they want from the TV commercials! Well I’ve been through that over 25 times (until they finished college) and I have some advice that could save you lots of money and heartache dealing with the children.  If your kids are adults, you’ll understand!

First of all, the kids need a limit of toys.  I know we want them to have more than what we had, but really.. we had maybe 2 toys!  So 3 toys would be more than what we had!  If you tell your kids they can get 5 toys, then you’ll see what’s really important to them.  That’s what you focus on.  Anything else would be a bonus.  How many times have they opened a gift and played with it once.  But stayed on the playstation for 10 days!  Not looking at anything else.  Stop wasting money on all those little things they don’t care about.  It’s more for the parents than the kids.

Be honest with them if your funds can’t get everything they want.  I know a lot of parents struggle everyday.  And you wonder how you will get the kids the gifts they want.  Kids ask for it because they think you can afford it!  If you be honest with your kids before Christmas and let them know that you can’t afford certain items, (if you raised them right) they will understand and their expectations won’t be so big.  Then if you are able to get more, its a bonus.  I remember one year I really couldn’t afford to get them  a  lot, but they ALWAYS had great Christmases.  They were incredibly understanding which blew me away.  But after Christmas, once bills were paid, I splurged on them, because they understood.

In short, Christmas has been commercialized and marketed to make kids think its about the toys and the gifts when it’s really not.  It’s about the birth of our Lord and Savior.  It’s about giving to the needy, and it’s about rejoicing.  If your kids seem ungrateful, take them to any homeless shelter and let them see how excited those kids are who only get one toy!  We as parents are the culprits. We are the ones who spoil our kids with “things” and they don’t get the true meaning until the “things” aren’t involved.  So this year, don’t go broke on one day.  Babies won’t even know it’s Christmas new Moms.  They already have lots of toys they never play with.  lol.. But I know it’s hard to not buy them everything.  But that’s for you.. not them, because they don’t know.

Cherish the day, and let the kids know the true meaning of Christmas.  And if you can do something for a child who has nothing, ask your child to give away one toy to a child who won’t get anything. They will certainly understand the true meaning and the value of Christmas if they do.

I woke up this morning, and after my prayer, I went on Facebook.  I saw where people had died last night, and accidents, and sadness.  My heart then went to a sad place.  I had to go back in prayer and start all over.  Then it hit me… I will not be starting my day off with things that are not happy!  I turned on my “happy” music. That was the song “Happy” by Pharrell.  Then guess what, my mood changed!  I started dancing, clapping, and singing!!  My mood was adjusted so fast because of my instincts.  I knew where I was going with my mood, and I changed it.

We can all change our moods.  If you know something isn’t bringing you joy and happiness, change.  If it stresses you out, change. If it causes you to not sleep, change.  If you don’t see anything positive, change.  You get it right?  Change can change you!  It can make you happy, better, stronger!  Don’t let the “world” make you unhappy!  It’s crazy, because it seems like November and December are always my “change” months! I purge my phone, deleting negativity, purge my social media, deleting irrelevant.. I wondered why, then I realized that I refuse to start a New Year with something that does not make me happy!  And changes have been made!! LOL.. I’ll update ya later on those!  But I thought someone else would need this today.

So remember, if it’s not making you happy…CHANGE IT! It’s all up to you!

Dead Soil
Helloo Everyone!!!

I’m back!  And I’m glad to be back. These JOBS(just over broke) will get you into them, and out of yourself.  When you know your passion, it’s what you always come back too, and writing is mine. So I’m back with more stories, more laughs, and more of The Real Mommie Teresa!  I’ll do some catch ups with Teresa blogs also, but today I want to talk about my topic….”Flowers can’t bloom in dead soil.”

I was listening to Periscope yesterday, yes Periscope, I’m on it..@teresacrawford, just in case you want to follow me.  I’ll be doing more of those soon too. 🙂 Well
Ms. LaToyia Jones,(Check her out) was on, and she talked about don’t quit before you start.  Another great topic, but during her discussion,  she made a reference that no flower will bloom if the soil is dead.  That took me to so many different places in life.  It was like I could just see the dead flower limping, and wondering what it would take to bring it back to life.  Then I hear it.. “new soil”.

To the point, when something has expired in your life, then the time is up.  That can be a job, a lover, a husband, a wife,  a car, a house, a friendship, or whatever.  When you’ve done all you can do to make something  work, and it’s not working, then maybe the soil is dead.  When the soil is dead, water doesn’t work, fertilizer doesn’t work, nothing works.  The only thing that will work, is to dump that soil, and replace it with new soil.  So what am I saying?  You already know. Get rid of what’s keeping your flower from blooming. When a beautiful flower is dead, it limps over, the colors fade, the leaves fall off, and the total appearance of the flower has changed.  That means, you look sad, you feel bad, you feel depressed, you’re angry, you don’t want to do anything productive, your spirit is dead.  Is anyone experiencing that?  If you are, then you need to dump that dead soil, and replace it with new, fresh soil!  With new fresh soil, you get revitalized, you get refreshed, your color comes back, you start feeling good about yourself, and you start to bloom!! Once  you start blooming, then you start growing, and you get stronger and more beautiful  That soil that was killing  you, is gone, and the new soil has brought you back to life.

New SoilThat’s life.. don’t let what is not for you keep holding you down. The only way you will flourish, is to not be afraid to make changes in your life.  That decision is NOT easy, but it has to happen.  If you keep doing what you are doing, you’ll keep getting what you are getting.  The only way you will get something different, is to do something different.  If you keep doing the same thing and expect different results, you’ll just see that flower slowing starting to limp and die  So today, replant that flower in some new and improves soil!  Help that flower bloom and blossom!!  Now is your season!!! God will reap your blessing as long as you sow.

A sower went out to sow.  And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them.  Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and immediately they sprung up, since they had no depth of soil, but when the sun rose they were scorched.  And since they had no root, they withered away.  Other seeds fell among thorns and the thorns grew up and choked them.  Other seeds fell on good soil, and produced grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.  He who has ears, let him hear.  Matthew 13:3-9

That message just reiterates what I’m saying.  Be careful where you put your soil..the ground also needs to be ready for the soil.

As Always..

Love & Kisses,

A True Benefit of a Mother… Did you realize what you did??

I'm not the creator of this photo...

I’m not the creator of this photo…

As I was talking to Christina the other day about people being around you all the time, it crossed my mind the role of a Mother. We as Moms really never think of what it really means to be a mother, but here’s some food for thought to every Mother.
As a Mother, you actually create a life. You watch and feel that life grow inside your body, and you begin to love that child before they even enter this world. As far as the child, that child literally turns into a human inside of you. They develop arms, legs, lungs, and a heart. They go from a fetus to a human right inside your body. They get to know your inside because it’s their home. As my son said in a poem, “I am one of 3 who has seen your soul. I slept to your heartbeat.” How deep is that? Have you really thought about your child has seen inside your body? They have actually laid next to your heart. They felt when your heart was going fast, and when it was going slow. They knew if something was wrong, by knowing your heart. They have actually seen your soul.
Then one day, it’s time to bring that child into the world. With that, your body is the only thing a child knows. They know you from the inside, and they finally get to see your face. The sound they have heard for 9 months, they can now put a face to it. I know we can all remember that first time we looked into our child’s face, but think of how that child felt then they saw our face for the first time. When they finally got a chance to get a kiss from you and be held in your arms. Then you answer to their every call and cry. You carry them wherever they need to go, you feed them when they are hungry, you change them when they can’t tell you they are wet. You basically become their world. They can’t do anything without you, and you get to a point that you can’t do anything without them. They now become your life.
Then they begin to talk and walk. They begin to tell you they love you. They kiss you, and they show you how much they appreciate you. But you begin to mold them into who they will become in life. That’s a tough job. Just think, this small fetus, that was once in your womb, is now growing up, and it’s your responsibility to assist them and encourage them to become a successful adult. It’s everything you do and teach them to do, that will make them who they are. It’s your job to make sure you teach them to be a respectful person in society, and to make the best out of life.
So it almost seems like you are a God to your child right? But think of how we were created by God. God gave us a gift that we don’t even recognize. That’s the gift to give life. That’s the gift to create, mold, and shape a person into who they will be. When you think of it, it’s a big responsibility because you might not do it right and mess up your child’s life! Are there rules? Nope. Can you master it? Nope. Do you know how they will turn out? Nope. But all you can do is be Mom. Give them the love, the attention, the knowledge they need to learn, and the will to succeed. We all won’t get it right, but we go the major part of it done, by carrying them in our bodies, and making sure we let them see our souls. There is nothing better than being a Mom. There’s no gift anyone can give you that can mean more than birthing a child. So this holiday season, think a little deeper than what a gift means. Think of the person that saw your soul, and slept to your heartbeat. Think of that child that you gave life, and the child that needed your life to live.
And if that doesn’t’ sink in, think of how God gave up HIS only child… For You.
