Thanks for”giving” us Thanksgiving

28 Thursday Nov 2013

First of all Happy Thanksgiving! Today is a day we think of eating the best food ever, and everyone has a chance to show their cooking skills! But I look at it as a time of family gathering and reflection. This is the one time of year we can come together and just be thankful to have each other. Every year at someone’s house, a person is missing. The memories of that person should forever live in your hearts. God placed us all in the hands of someone else temporarily. And when He calls that person back home, all we can do is “Thank Him” for the time He let us borrow them.

Take this day and cherish every person in your family. Accept them for who they are, because God has a plan for them and for you. Thank God for giving them to you. We never know who’s not going to be at the dinner table next year. So enjoy this day, cherish every moment, and eat as much as you want!!

Take the day to laugh, reflect on the memories of family, enjoy the family, and just celebrate the season of life. Remember, today is the present, it’s the gift if life today. Tomorrow may never come!!! Be thankful for the life you live!!

Have a very Thankful Thanksgiving!

Facebook has a face..

So it’s amazing how we utilize Facebook for our lives. It can be a powerful tool, but it can also be a harmful weapon! Why would anyone want to air their dirty laundry to the world? It’s encouraging to see people doing positive things with positive results. And it’s actually sad to see the disrespect and bullying that it brings. You know, a computer can turn you into Superman or Superwoman. So many people can hide behind a screen.

I remember a person put in an application for a job. I pulled up his Facebook page, and his profile picture was him aiming a gun at the camera with a swastika behind him. Did he get called in for an interview? Absolutely not!! Did he need a job? I’m sure he did. That means young people, when you post some of the things you do that expose your lifestyle, people are NOT going to hire you. When you see weed, nudity, negativity, drama, that will keep you from getting a job. Don’t think for a moment anyone won’t check. They do!

Keep it positive, keep it inspirational and use it for growth. If you have nothing else to do but put all your business our there that should be confidential, then you get out of society what you put into it. And just because you have a job, don’t ever think your employers aren’t watching. They aren’t your friends? Well someone there is, and don’t think for a minute they won’t snitch you out!!! It happens everyday.

I know a lot of people could care less about what they put in FB. But just remember, Facebook has a face, and it’s yours!!

Tomorrow

I was reading my own blogs and decided to repost this one, because at the year end, it seems we lose so many people in our lives.  So Happy reading!

As I was cooking breakfast and having coffee this morning, I was listening to Lyfe Jennings song, “If Tomorrow Never Comes”. These are the lyrics that caught my attention:

“If I could write the words I say, tell you I love you every single day.  If I could somehow turn back the hands of time, I wouldn’t waste a moment arguing, and I’d never put you through that again.”

“Cause if tomorrow never comes, and you never see me again, I don’t want your last memories of me, to be filled with negativity. If tomorrow never comes, all that fussing and fighting won’t mean nothing when it’s said and done, if tomorrow never comes.”

“And tell my kids, they will be especially missed, and if there’s anything they should learn from this, is life is a gift, tomorrow’s never promised.  If I could rewrite one sentence of my life, I would write the words I never say, tell you I love you every single day. See if I could turn back the hands of time, I would say what’s on my mind, and tell you thank you for being in my life.”

“I take it back, I take back every mean word that I ever said out of anger. And every time I ever hurt you. I take it back. I take back all the disagreements and hurt feelings, not believing in you. Tell me what can I do, but apologize to you, if tomorrow never comes.  My apologies, for if tomorrow never comes, I’ll make sure that I’m the one who says how much I wish I was there.”

Whew!  Now this song really makes you think?  What if tomorrow never comes? What if you go to sleep tonight and this is it? What if this is the last day of your life? And really, it could be. We don’t know. What will people think of you tomorrow?  What will their last memory be?  Will it be that you cursed someone out, and make them feel less than a human?  Will it be that you had an argument, and walked away and no one apologized?  Did you tell your family and your children you love them? Did you help a stranger who will never forget you? Did you speak positive or negative into the world? Did you thank God for the last day, and for all your blessings?

To my children: If tomorrow never comes, and you never see me again, you know I love you all more than life! Thank you God for lending me these 3 Angels.  We’ve had a whirlwind of life!! We live, we love, and we have always laughed.. thru good and bad! If tomorrow never comes, I’ll never regret anything, because you all make life easy!

Well if tomorrow never comes.. you can’t take anything back, and you can’t do it over..  did you do all you could today?  (Food for thought)

Have a Wonderful Wednesday?

And We Went To Church As Kids Because?…A look back at those days..

17 Sunday Nov 2013

church, Deacon, Holy Spirit, Prayer, Religion and Spirituality, Sermon, Sunday, Sunday school

Since today is Sunday, I’m going to take everyone on a journey of when we were kids, and what Sunday worship was to us.  I hope you aren’t in church reading this.. don’t want you to be laughing to loudly! So y’all see where this is going right?

When we were kids, we went to a baptist church considered in the “country” part of my hometown.  Well our Pastor had several different churches, and our church had church only on the 2nd Sunday. As kids, we knew that the 2nd Sunday was an all day affair. As a matter of fact, we saved our money until the 2nd Sunday. I’ll explain why in a few.  Once we got up and got to church, it was Sunday school, then devotion (now known as worship without all the good singing), then collection, then prayer, then preaching, then collection.  And that was only the 1st sermon!  There was about an hour break, then came session 2 starting all over again! Now as I’m grown and I’ve discovered God, and all his glories, I wondered what were we doing back in the day?!  Well here’s what we were doing…

There were four of us. Me, my sister Nita, and my 2 brothers, Jr. and Rodney.  There was my Mom who took us to church, but Daddy was working or home. So Mom had the tedious task of getting us dressed, fed, and out. Then we took that long (back then) haul to the church.  We were happy to get there, cause we got a chance to see all the “church kids” that we hadn’t seen in a month!  So we all sat together in the back of the church.  Now Sunday school, we participated, but after that.. it was “show time”! Now don’t think I’m crazy, cause I know some of y’all remember these times too!  Well during devotion, the Deacons would go to the front of the church and bring a chair out with them, kneel and pray. And when I say pray…they prayed!! They prayed a long time!! They prayed so long, the would get up sweating!! So we were in the back of the church almost asleep from our head bowed, and eyes closed so long! But during prayer, we would always get caught looking at each other to make sure eyes were closed. If they weren’t, that was a little laugh, and “close your eyes!”  Well then after that Deacon finished, another Deacon did the same thing.  So after about an hour, it was choir time.  There were ups and downs with the country church choir.  When they had a piano player, it was good. Without the piano player.. well.. I’ll just not comment on that!  But then came the Pastor! Now when I say, we had the best preacher in town!!! Man, he could preach!  He knew that bible, and he preached from it. He would jump on top of the pews, jump on top of the Communion table, and wherever he could get on top of!  Now what he was talking about.. we don’t know. We really didn’t pay much attention until he finally got to his “boiling point”, as we called it. That was the time, action was about to begin! (Now this is why we liked church, and the moment we waited for) So we were on look out at the ladies of the church, trying to see who was about to “blow”!  We’d see the knees trembling, the hands in the air, the yes-yes-yes, and then…. there it came!! THE SHOUTING!! (as we called it) The ladies would jump up outta their seat, and just fall back down! They were screaming, and jumping like nothing we ever saw, except at church! The Ushers all ran over with their fans, and tried to control them. But then,  the wigs flew off! Now that was our time!  All us church kids were in the back of the church rolling all over the pews laughing uncontrollably! The dresses would come up and we’d see those stocking rolled up above the knee with a knot in them, and that was even funny! Sometimes, the women would just faint! But there was always an Usher with that little bottle of green stuff to put under thier nose to bring them back! Now I know y’all remember this!  (I’m laughing thinking about us back then) But as soon as one lady would calm down, another one started! So that happened every time we went to church!

Now after the 1st sermon, it was our time! The moment we saved our money to go across the street to the house that sold candy to the kids, and was also a bootleg house! Yes, candy and liquor. So during the “intermission” all the kids, and the Deacons were at the Bootleg Candy house.  We’d see the Deacons take a big gulp outta the plastic cups, and make that frown..(“y’all know that frown right..lol) So after we all had our fix.. we would all go back to the church for the 2nd sermon. (And I wondered why those Deacons were sweating so bad) And it started all over again, round 2!

Ok, so I hope you got some humor from that, but now I’m looking back and realizing what was really happening. That preacher knew his words, and the Holy Spirit was all over that church. The things those women endured in thier lives, that was their outlet.
That was the time for their spirit to be cleansed, and for the Holy Spirit to get in them, and let out their frustrations. We had no idea! As kids, we went to church because “that was what you were supposed to do.”  We didn’t know the bible, we didn’t understand the real meaning of God.  We did all the church stuff, but we didn’t “learn”.  As an adult when I got to my own worship point in life, I realized there was so much I didn’t know.  I was never really taught the bible, and what it meant. So once I discovered that, it opened my eyes to a whole new life! I had so much to learn.  And it wasn’t only me, it was all of us. Maybe some of you who are reading this too!  I remember me and Jr were at a funeral, and the preacher said, “open your bible to the book of Job (pronounced Jobe),and I did. Jr looked and me and said, “that’s job, he said Jobe”! lol.. So I gave him that “boy you don’t know nothing about the bible look!’ But that let me know, that he was just like I had been. All that time in the church, but didn’t know a thing.

Well this story could go on, and on, but I just wanted to share that in life, you learn and you grow.  I’m so glad I went through what I went through as a child, to realize what God was doing back in the day. Also to appreciate his Glory more today. Once I discovered HIM and realized how HE died to save our souls from the sins we committed, I had every reason in the world to worship HIM and to praise HIM. Church has gotten so much better about teaching our children now, so they won’t be adults discovering who God is.

I thank God for you all that share my blog, and I pray for all of you each and every day. I pray blessing and prosperity over your life and the life of anyone in your paths. Thank you for being a part of my life, and I promise to always be uplifting, positive, and keep a smile on your face somewhere!

Love and Hugs..

Atlanta, Bentley, God, Madea, Spike Lee, Tyler, Tyler Perry, Tyler Perry's House of Payne

Tyler Perry posted a video yesterday of him stopping at a red light, and a school bus stopped beside him. Being from Atlanta, I know that Tyler was probably in his Bentley. He was recording the kids on the school bus as they were hanging out the window yelling and screaming, and they were also taking pictures of him. That had to be a good feeling for all those kids to know him, and want to have a picture of him. But what those kids saw was the outside, blinging successful image of Tyler.  How many of those kids do you think, know Tyler Perry’s story?  The problem today is, so many people see you with the fame and fortune, but they don’t understand what it takes to get to that point in life.

Tyler Perry has a magnificent story about how he obtained his glory. His life was hard, he struggled, he lost everything he had. He was broke and was almost homeless. But Tyler had a dream and a desire.  He overcame obstacles, he didn’t take no for an answer, and he never gave up! When Tyler Perry got to the point that he thought nothing was going to happen, and he was at his lowest point in his life, that’s when God stepped in and showed him his worth. Tyler had dreams that he would make it and be successful, but he never knew the magnitude of what God had in store for him. And people wonder why Tyler Perry is blessed? Tyler Perry is blessed because he gives back! He’s blessed because he takes his blessings, to bless others! God knew when Tyler Perry was born, what he was going to become in life. Tyler didn’t even know what God and store for him! So people may wonder why did Tyler had to go through all of the things he went through, to get to where he is today? The reason he went through it, is because he needed a story to magnify and appreciate  his glory! If God had given Tyler Perry all of those blessings when he first started in business, he would not have been such a blessing to everyone else, because he wouldn’t understand how people struggle.

Struggle equates to survival.  When you struggle, you learn to survive! You learn to endure obstacles, and you understand what people go through when they have nothing. For those people who don’t even realize how much Tyler Perry gives back, you should research Tyler, and what he does for his community!  With all of that being said the objective to this is, you have to know someone’s story, to appreciate their glory! God will put you through an obstacle course in life. He has to make sure you can run, walk, crawl, climb, kneel and pray!  He lifts you up, then drops you!  He’s  preparing you for the finish line in life! But in order to get the prize, you give up all you have, to get all you deserve! So the next time you see a person who is doing great, realize they have a story behind all of that glory!  One day you’ll have a story, behind your glory! But you have to go through that obstacle course of life. Even though it will get hard, don’t give up, don’t give in,  and don’t give out! Never lose faith because one day, that may be you in that car, at a red light, in your Bentley those kids see! And you’ll be their hero too!  Just don’t quit, you are closer to your blessing than you think!!

Now that you are a young adult, you don’t know what you want to do in life??! WHAT??

So you don’t know what you wanna do in life? What??! This is not what parents will want to hear, but some of us need to hear this. Now my young adults, pay close attention…

This is a subject that is sometimes controversial, and everyone has an opinion… these are “mine”.  So parents, (I’m not a Psychologist, I just lived, and learned).  When kids graduate high school and get ready to go to college, they have this idea or dream of what they desire to be.  Well your idea is stored somewhere in the back of your mind, tucked away, and the dream is on the forefront, because you want to live up to everyone else’s expectations.  I can remember when my daughter wanted to be a Pediatrician. Why? Because she had the dream of making a lot of money, and everyone was like, oh Christina is going to be a Doctor. So me, being a realist, and working at a children’s hospital, made sure she understood what came with that madness.  Every time you walk into a room with a sick child, they are screaming and crying, why?  Because Mamma said the Doctor is going to give you a shot!  And after babysitting some kids that gave her a real reality check… lol… she didn’t want ANY part of that!  Thank God for my years at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta!  Then she thought she wanted to be a Pharmacist. I knew that was a boring job for her, but “other” family members had the “dream” of her being in medicine.  So after her FIRST year of college, she had a revelation   “BORING”. Lol, I understood!  Then she found her niche, Broadcasting and Journalism.  I could see that in her. But “other” family members lost “their” dream of having a “Pharmacist” in the family and were disappointed. But you know what mattered the most? She was happy!  And so was I!

Parents, we cannot live our dreams through our children! We have a hard enough time trying to decide what we want to do in our lives!  I know back in the day, our grandparents worked the same job for 30 years!  And now we max out at 6-10 years. When your child changes his/her major in school, don’t trip out on them. I know sometimes we think we know what’s right, but is it right for you, or your child?  We can’t live vicariously through them, we’ve had our chance.  So when you spend all your money on a degree, then your child decides he wants to cut hair,  work in a prison, or be a cop, that child has had that idea in their mind a long time, but they wanted to fulfill “your” dream. That was an expensive dream that “you” bought and paid for, and will never get the chance to use!

Let your children create who they want to be.  I’ve heard so many kids say, I wish my parents could understand that! College is not for everyone!  You know if your child is struggling in High School, how are they going to make it in College?  They go, and party for a couple of years, then take a year off. Lol. A year off, and they have money to go, means ”not for me”.  If it’s financial, that’s another story.  We never know where our paths will take us in life, and how many times our careers will change.  I don’t even know and I’m almost 50.  I’ve done so many daggone things! Let me see, Army, Headstart Assistant, Cosmetologist, Correctional Officer, Security Officer,  Narcotic Officer, Bartender, Operations Manager,  General Manager, and Sales.  And not to mention all the “other” hustle jobs I had!  And my career is still changing!  But I’m happy! If I didn’t like it and it didn’t make me happy, I changed, to create change. I just refuse to let life pass me by and I’m not happy.  So when you’re stuck in that rut of life, it’s ok to make a change!  What kills you slowly is the fact that you hate your job, you have to have it, because you’re afraid to change.  When you can get it in your mind that it’s ok, you’ll be ok!

Our children are the future. They ARE going to grow up. And we always say, “I don’t want them to struggle like I had to struggle”.  WHY THE HELL NOT?!?!! The fight wins the battle!! If you don’t know how to fight, you lose every time! When you make decisions for someone else, or you live for someone else, you lose “your dreams, your desires, and yourself”.  When a parent just “can’t” let go, they are doing more harm than good. Parents,  let them go.. let them fight.. let them get beat up, so they can know how to stand up and fight back.  Sometimes we always know what’s really best, and sometimes we don’t. Let that chain break off those kids!!!! Stop trying to let them be who or what you never could be, because that’s not their dream, it’s yours!!

Young people, my words of advice are “live, laugh, love”! If you live, you’ll find what it is you really want to do. When you laugh, you take life as a challenge and a joke.  It’s funny when you see where you are, where you’ve been, and where you’re going.  And love, when you love, all the pieces of the puzzle come together.  When you love your life, you enjoy yourself.. Love your job, and the money WILL come. (One guy told me.. when you hate your job, that’s what it is.. a J.O.B.  “just over broke”). But when you love what YOU do, it’s rewarding and beneficial to YOU! Stand up to your parents and let them know what makes YOU happy. We may fight you, but in the end, your future is YOUR future.  We will still love you! It doesn’t matter if you work on a garbage truck, or drive a tractor trailer, if you’re a Doctor, or a Cab Driver, or a starving artist..  WE WILL STILL LOVE YOU!!!

So when those kids want to change, sometimes all they need from you is support. Listen to what they say; because they tell you what they want, you just don’t hear it, because it’s not a part of “your” plan.

As always,

Hugs and Love from

Who is “They” and who cares about what “They” Say!!!

Ammunition, Army, Atlanta, God, Master Degree, National Science Foundation, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, Yes (band)

This topic came to me last night.  It really kills me when someone says, “Well THEY said”.  Who is “They”?  Well personally “they” make me sick!!  You know “they” are the reason for bringing you down, and lifting you up.  One thing in life we all do is make mistakes. Yes, we all make mistakes and no, you aren’t perfect.  I haven’t met a perfect person yet.  But when anyone makes a mistake, the first thing “they” say is. I knew it.. I told you.. That’s what I expected… Y’all know how they are..   The nay-sayers like to see you down and want you to stay down.  But you know how to shut them up? By taking their comments to make you better!  Instead of us lifting each other up.. we constantly put each other down.  I’m saying we, because as I said, I’m not perfect either.

When I thought about this topic, the 1st thing came to my mind is when I was criticized by the “they’s”.  I can remember when I went to the Army, “they” said I wouldn’t make it through Basic Training.. Laugh at you “they’s!”  Then I went to Cosmetology School, and “they” said I couldn’t be the 1st black working in an all-white salon in Eatonton GA.  Thanks to Bonita Long for giving me a job, when a lot of her white clients said, “they “wouldn’t come back because a “black girl” was working there.  And guess what? Those same “theys” ended up being MY clients!!! Laugh at you “they’s”.  I moved to Atlanta with my 3 children, and “they” said, she’ll be back!! She can’t make it in Atlanta with 3 kids on her own. Well after being in Atlanta for 20 years, AND running, yes I said “running” multi-million dollar corporations.. Laugh at you “they’s!” And a double laugh to know that not only did I live there and work there, I got a Bachelor and a Master Degree while working AND raising 3 children on my own!! Triple laugh at you “they’s!”  I could go on and on, but I’m sure you all get the point by now. “They” have really helped me, and not hurt me, because I had a point to prove to “they”!

So to the young people today, don’t let “they say” make or break you!  Yes, you made a mistake, yes you dropped out of school, yes you have a baby, yes you screwed up and had to backtrack, yes you may have been to jail, but guess what?  Those mistakes will make you do even better in life.  You had a baby? So now there’s the motivation you didn’t have to get you to the next level. You have created  life, who now depends on you, and no one can tell ME that you don’t change when you have children. All of a sudden, we have that Lioness instinct.  We have that new-found hunt and hustle that comes from within, with survival in mind.  You have a reason to be great! God didn’t put you in a position to fail!  And that’s what will make you better.  You will have setbacks and challenges, but don’t ever fret over those.  Just keep doing the best that you can!

People want to see you fail, and that’s what “they” will say! I’m sure so many of us, who have struggled and done pretty good in life have a lot of “they” stories.   But young people laugh at the “theys!” Every time you hear gossip about what “they” say.. you say to yourself, or out loud.. LAUGH AT THE “THEYS”.. because when you do the greatness that is within you, “they” won’t even congratulate you! Because that’s not what “they” thought you would do!

I hope someone needs this and it helps you.  I wish I had someone to tell me about the “theys” when I was younger.  But I had to learn it on my own.  I worried about what “they” said, and little did I know, that God used “they” as my weapon of Mass Destruction. Every time I got a “they said”, it was giving me more ammunition on life! After a few years, I had enough ammo to fight a war, and win! So let this be ammo to some of you all!  Store the “theys” in your mind, and wait until you have success.  Then go back and you don’t have to say a thing… just LAUGH AT THE “THEYS”! LOL, LOL, LOL..

Now have a wonderful day!!!

If I Knew Then, What I Know Now…

13 Wednesday Nov 2013

So I was contemplating on whether or not to start a blog, but I always wait on answers from a higher power. I knew when the timing was right, I’d be ready. So that Lil Angel whispered, “you have so much to share”, and I do!! Lol. So that was my sign to get to work!  Now before I begin, I want Everyone to know, that these are “my” thoughts that I’m writing!  I’ve been through a lot in life, and I have a little wisdom about it. If you gain anything, good, if you get a laugh, great, and if you share, wonderful!  Comments will make it more entertaining, and if you have something to share, please do!

So my 1st official blog: If I knew then, what I know now.. what would be different.  The answer at the end will surprise you… So how many times have we made that statement?  Normally when we made a major screw up, or if our kids screwed up!  But what is it that you know now, that you didn’t know then?  We knew wrong from right didn’t we?  And if a few of you had parents like mine.. I’m sure you knew the difference. But did it really matter?  Let’s be honest, we knew right from wrong, but wrong seemed so much more fun at the time!! LOL. I can think of a number of times I had a choice, and I chose what I knew wasn’t right! Only because I knew that the most fun, was with the most wrong! If you’re laughing right now, or saying..”girrrl I know that’s right”, you feel me!!

Life was designed to be a mystery.  It wasn’t meant for us to know what it holds, what lies at the end, what’s in the middle, or how long we’ll live in it. What’s exciting and magical about life is, “what’s next?”  We go through so many changes in life to get to the “what’s next”.  What’s next is always the answer to good and bad.  If you’re having bad luck, you say, “what else can happen” or good luck, “what’s gonna happen next?’ Who knows.. “NOBODY”. I can recall saying so many times to my Baby Girl, if I knew then what I know now, we’d be rich!! But really..would we? What could I have done different? I would have had to complete the circle of life I’ve completed, to even begin to accomplish then what I have now.  In life, God puts us through a world storm.  We never know when a storm is coming, or how long the storm will last.  But when the storm is over, you look back at it and say..WOW.. Thank you!  But as soon as you think, you’ve gotten ahead, here comes a Tornado..again.. and guess what?  You survive it..again.. “Thank You!”

So do you ever wonder why we go through so much when we try to do the best we can? Well you can’t do the best you can, until you can go through the storm, and come out of it. Once you’ve been through a storm, and you had to fight the wind, rain, hail, all the debree  that comes along with it.. you’ve learned to fight, and you’ve become stronger, and wiser. Then you are a little more prepared for the next storm. The more storms you go through, the stronger you become! So in case I need to break down “storms”, they are things that happen in your life.. I lost my 1st love at age 13, that was my Mom. That was my 1st big storm, and I didn’t think I could survive it. But little did I know, I would become a Mini-Mom for my brothers and sisters and really understand unconditional love. I lost a true love at age 20, but I became a Mother to his son, and also my 1st son, who was my true, true love.. By going through a storm, God gives you something rewarding at the end. The bigger the storm, the greater the reward.

Now to answer the question I asked in the beginning.. If I knew then, what I know now, what would I change… Absolutely nothing!  Why? Because it took everything I knew then, to get me to where I am now.  If I had never been through anything, I wouldn’t know anything. Life is so funny, and God is the funniest comedian of them all.  Just when you think you have things figured out, there HE comes with another joke that will trip you out! So just live your life everyday, and expect the unexpected to always happen.  Because that is where you get your wisdom.

I hope you enjoyed my 1st blog.. I have so much to share, and my goal is to share life with you as much as I can. I want to send encouragagement to our young adults letting them know.. it does get hard.. but don’t give up. You’ll be rewareded for everything you go through as long as you do it right!

Until tomorrow..

Love and hugs from Mommie Teresa
